A Lovely Small Beachfront Hotel on Jost Van Dyke in the BVI

Written by KarlRoos on Wednesday, October 15th, 2008 in Travel.

Looking for a wonderful escape on the BVI at Jost Van Dyke, then check out the Sandcastle Hotel

If you want a small hotel, more of a romantic inn really, and it has to be on the BVI, then look no further than the Sandcastle Hotel which is beachfront on White Bay on Jost Van Dyke. To get here you obviously need to fly from your home, and then complete the journey by ferry from Tortola, which is a thirty minute journey. You won’t need much in the way of luggage because the Sandcastle Hotel is very much a barefoot place to unwind, and forget the cares of the world.

You are right beside the sea that is a colour you can hardly begin to describe, and the beach as the name might suggest is soft white sand, but best of all you will be greeted with that happy degree of intimacy that people on the island have, so you will be welcomed like an old friend.

It is fair to say right away, that if you are looking for luxury, then the Sandcastle Hotel is probably not your ideal destination, but if it is a romantic getaway then this is certainly the kind of romantic inn that you will love.

As well as being small and intimate with only seven rooms the Sandcastle Hotel is famous for the Soggy Dollar Bar, which is the birthplace of the Original Painkiller a popular rum drink fed to guests. The bar takes its name from the fact that many guests swim ashore to drink there, thus the name Soggy Dollar from the state of their cash when they pay.

The accommodation splits between four cottages and two rooms, with two of the cottages beachfront, two garden, and the cottages have air conditioning, with none of them more than 70 feet from the shore. They are all comfortably furnished and the showers in the cottages are outside but enclosed and the water is heated by the sun, so hot in the evening but not so in the morning!! The beds are comfortable, and there is a plentiful supply of towels and beach towels.

There are no real planned and laid out activities at the Sandcastle Hotel, this is very much a lie around in a hammock, relax, read, lie in the sun, and enjoy watching the yachts come in. You do need to book in for meals, in the case of breakfast the night before in the kitchen where the bulletin board shows the daily menus. For dinner you need to sign up by mid afternoon, and you can expect very good food, which is good value for money, and although the choice may be a bit limited, you will be delighted at the quality.

The Sandcastle Hotel may be a small beachfront hotel, but the whole ambience from the white sand beach, the Soggy Dollar Bar, the beautiful turquoise blue water, makes it the almost perfect romantic getaway destination. All you need to do is relax in a place where there are no telephones, and no televisions, and no 21st Century hustle and bustle, just Jost Van Dyke BVI time, so lie back, close your eyes and forget about everything.

Tortuguero National Park - Nature, Turtles, Hiking, Culture and More

Written by LisaKhajavi on Wednesday, October 15th, 2008 in Travel.

Tortuguero National Park is the entrance way to one of the most ecological diverse displays of flora and fauna in Costa Rica boasting a waterway of famed beauty. It is also the most important area in the western Caribbean for turtle preservation, as it is here where the Green Turtle (Chelonia Mydas) and others come to lay their eggs. Protecting marine turtles was a principal reason for the creation of the park, for its black-sand beaches are also nesting grounds for the gigantic Leatherback Turtle (Dermochelys Coriacea), the attractive Hawksbill Turtle (Eretmochelys Imbricata) and the brown-colored Loggerhead Turtle (Caretta Caretta).

Dubai Tourist Attractions

Written by ChrisChew on Wednesday, October 15th, 2008 in Travel.

Before we take a look at some of the tourist attractions in Dubai, here are some facts and information about this Middle Eastern city.

Dubai is one of the seven emirates that made up the oil rich United Arab Emirates commonly referred to as UAE. This city sits snug in the eastern Arabian Peninsula and is also UAE’s main city.

The emirate of Dubai was created with the formation of the UAE in1971 although there are some documents to suggest that the city was already in existence a century or two before the formation of UAE. Dubai has a population of about 1.5 million people at the time of writing. It has the largest population in comparison to the other emirates and is the second largest emirate by land area, after Abu Dhabi.

However, according to the census done by the Statistics Center of Dubai, only about 17 percent its population is made up of UAE nationals and the rest are made up of expatriates, foreign workers and tourists.

Arabic is the official language of Dubai, but Persian, Malayalam, Urdu, Bengali, Tamil, English, Hindi, and Tagalog are widely spoken because of the many foreigners living in Dubai.

Dubai City is not a tour destination that it is easily explored on foot because many of its tourist attractions such as Deira and Jumeirah Beach are located far apart from each other. Here are some tourist attractions you must visit if you are heading to Dubai for your vacation.

Bastakiya - Bastakiya district is located at East of Dubai Souk on Al-Fahidi Street.

Way back in the days before there was electricity for fans and air-conditioning, Dubai Creek used to have numerous wind towers that kept the homes cool from the blistering dessert heat. Touring the Bastakiya district is like taking a step back in time travel because of the many traditional courtyard houses still have the wind towers.

The Bastakiya district is now undergoing massive reconstruction for its transformation into a “tourist village”.

Palm Islands - The famous Palm Islands (so called because of its palm like shape), is actually a grouping of three islands and is said to be visible from the moon. The Palm Island is an incredible largest manmade island in the world. A large part of Palm Islands is still undergoing tremendous construction at the time of writing this article.

There are about 7,000 apartments and 1,800 villas and townhouses on The Palm, Jumeirah. Jumeirah will also offer an outstanding array of retail and lifestyle options for residents and tourists when construction is fully completed.

The Golden Mile when completed will offer the world’s most exclusive brands with an international array of boutiques, shops, restaurants and cafes.

As an exclusive tie up between The Trump Organization and Nakheel Group, The Palm Jumeirah will feature a number of Trump properties, including The Palm Trump International Hotel and Tower.

The Crescent Island will feature luxurious international hotels in Dubai and situated near The Crescent are a number of fascinating dive sites to thrill scuba divers.

Sheikh Saeed Al-Maktoum’s House - Sheikh Saeed Al-Maktoum’s House, near Al-Shindagha Tunnel, Al-Shindagha Road is one of the oldest homes in the city, as well as one of the best examples of traditional Arabic architecture. The house was built exclusivly with sandstone in 1896 and offers panoramic views of the sea. Sadly though, the fantastic view is now slightly obscured by the more modern developments.

The Sheikh who was a former ruler of Dubai used the house to monitor trading in and out of the country. This tourist attraction was reopened as a museum in 1986 contains an exhibition showcasing the development of Dubai from 1940s to1960s.

Children’s City - Tourists with children will be delighted to take the kids the Children’s City, located at Creekside Park. The Children’s City was opened in 2002 and is a smashing hit with children and their delighted parents.

This 7,700 sq-m (83,000 sq ft) wonderland takes young minds on a journey through the human body, science and space, with the help of different ‘zones’. There are also plenty of hands-on activities to keep even the most playful children occupied. All exhibits in this city are in English and Arabic.

Jumeirah Mosque - The Jumeirah Mosque on Al-Jumeirah Road is perhaps the most photographed building by tourists in Dubai because of its impressive example of modern Islamic architecture. Built along medieval Fatimid lines and entirely of stone, the Jumeirah Mosque with its two minarets is particularly beautiful in the night when subtle lighting increases the mosque’s dramatic effect.

Grand Mosque - The Grand Mosque in Ali ibin Ali Talib Street was only rebuilt in 1998 with the city’s tallest minaret standing at an impressive 70m (231ft) tall. The Grand Mosque is made up of nine large domes and 45 smaller ones. This mosque can accommodate up to 1,200 worshippers.

Souks - The souks, or traditional markets, are one of Dubai’s most popular tourist attractions. The souks are located on both sides of the creek, with the most impressive ones on the Deira side.

The highlight of this tourist attraction is the colorful and bustling Spice Market where tourist can find local delights like exotic perfumes and watch noisy locals bargaining with vendors.

Dubai Museum - Not to be missed is the Dubai Museum in Al-Fahidi Fort. The museum itself is actually a historic fort, dating back to 1799. It was only converted into a museum in 1970. The exhibits in the museum ranges from ancient weapons, pearl-diving outfits to an impressive range of military artifacts.

Some of the most intriguing exhibits are those discovered from the 3000 to 4000-year-old graves at Al-Ghusais.

Heritage Village - The Heritage Village is located at Shindagha Tunnel, Al-Shindagha Road and as the name suggests, it is an attempt to weave in some local traditional heritage in contrast to Dubai’s rapidly developing modern skyline.

The objective of the project is to recreate the Bedouin way of life, with locals dressed up in traditional Arabic garbs, exhibit traditional handicrafts, music and dance.

Jumeirah Beach - Although much of the famous pristine crystal clear water of Jumeirah Beach located at Al-Jumeirah Road is dominated by luxury hotels and 5 star accommodations, some of the hotels do allow non hotel guests to use their pools and stretches of beach if they dine at the hotels or pay a nominal usage fee.

Touring Mudgee, NSW

Written by NickGreen on Tuesday, October 14th, 2008 in Travel.

Have you ever been to a city called Mudgee in Australia? Most people outside of Asutralia have probably never even heard of it, let alone been there. Mudgee is a city in New South Wales, Australia, nestled in the Cudgegong River Valley, northwest of Sydney. If you have not been there or never heard of it, consider touring Mudgee, NSW this year. Here are some interesting toursim facts about Mudgee.

Mudgee is well-know for being a wine country. This makes it a popular spot for people to tour. There are up to forty wineries in this city. One such example is the Blue Wren. The Blue Wren opened in early 1999. A second vineyard was bought in September of 1999 located adjacent to Mudgee Airport. It was here that their wine tasting rooms, gift shops, and restaurant was constructed and debuted in March 2001. The restaurant has become a popular place to eat in Mudgee. Another winery is called the Farmer’s Daughter. Here you will find hospitable staff in lovely countryside surroundings. They aim to please as tourists taste their award-winning wines. They will let you relax in their wine garden and even use their on-site barbeque facilities. They even have lodgings to stay.

There are a variety of beautiful state parks in the area. The first of two examples being Munghorn Gap Nature Reserve. This is located northeast of Mudgee and only takes a half-hour to drive there. This Reserve is an excellent birdwatching spot, with up to 160 native species. Walkers can hike along the Castle Rocks track or enjoy a picnic at Moolarben Picnic Area. Another lovely state park is the Coolah Tops National Park. This park is nestled in the fragrant eucalyptus forest. Take pictures of each other with cascading waterfalls as your background. View the dazzling Liverpool plains, and choose from numberous campgrounds for your camping needs.

Tourists would be interested to learn there is a private observatory in Mudgee, simply called the Mudgee Observatory. It has been in business for ten years and occasionally used by the University of NSW, the Sydney Observatory staff and the Sutherland Astronomical Society. The observatory is located 15 minutes west of Mudgee. Tourists can view the night skies the way they were supposed to be seen. A tour of Mudgee observatory can be entertaining and educational for all ages.

Literature buffs would probably like the Henry Lawson Centre. Henry Lawson was one of Australia’s most prolific and well-known authors, his poetry still quoted to this day. The centre takes the visitor on a tour through the different phases of his life. People who want to learn some general history of Mudgee can visit the Mudgee Museum, which is located in an 1856 building, that was originally called the West End Hotel. This building has been lovingly recreated from the parlour to the bar and there is even charming doll display. Busses are welcome here.

Austrailia is world renowned for its diverse scenic beauty. Don’t overlook this little diamond in the rough that is Mudgee.

When you’re touring through Mudgee NSW, why not stop in at Mystic Park wineries to try some of their great selection of wines?

Taking a Trip to Beautiful Mudgee

Written by NickGreen on Tuesday, October 14th, 2008 in Travel.

In the midst of changing seasons, one is constantly thinking about the wonders that life will bring about next. Throughout the year the world indulges in the greatness of wine from various countries and an endless amount of wineries. Sipping on reds and whites or mixing it up with a sweet blend of rose. It’s a challenging competition for those in the winery business but it is one that is perfectly imperiously by one of Australia’s finest towns in its Eastern; Mudgee.

Wine tasting in Mudgee becomes more than just testing but a perfection of interest. One learns the classy ways of wineries and the various blends of overly-scrumptious berries. Over 15 remarkable wineries, including the Botobolar Vineyard, Burnbrae Wines, Andrew Harris Vineyards, Pieter Van Gent Winery & Vineyard, Knights Eurunderee Flats Winery, Mystic Park Wineries and so many more, this tender old town holds the spot in the hearts and mouths of those wine lovers. Twisting things up a bit, Knights Eurunderee Flats Winery gives those testers a run for their money with high selling flavors such as ‘Round Table Tawny’, ‘Merlin Rouge’, ‘Lancelot’s Liqueur’ and other various flavors flashing intelligently. Characterization of their wines fills the evening with a sense of power and enticement for those who dare to go this route.

Although, never a dull moment in this beautiful realm, one may choose to go a less drastic direction. Relax in Burnbrae Vineyard’s marquee reception while daintily savoring each drop of their extraordinary red and white wine. Although their red Shiraz and white Riesling bring in high votes, enjoy tasting several top sellers like Sweet white, Sauvignon, Botrytis Semillon, Cabernet, Petit Verdot, Merlot, and several other dignified wines.

The seriously well organized can make a winery the number one pick for those with a more structured schedule. Vinifera Wines brings this about simply with their website but also in their experience. Everything with its own meaning, Vinifera comes from the botanic name given for the specific grape species that is used to make wine. A customer can see directly on line the stockists, to see where their wine is being sold, and is able to do online purchasing. However, pay a visit if possible to this lovely 1850 vineyard successfully producing ripeness yearly.

Take a weekend to relax at Ardrossan Mudgee’s Bed and Breakfast and have a calm lunch by the pond while watching the swans float around gently. The gardens are park-like and allow for fabulous views of the farmland which sits only minutes away from town. This is an opportunity to be close to do much wine tasting in Mudgee as there are many around this area. Blue Wren Wines of Mudgee create a cozy feel. One can sit outdoors under sun umbrellas to enjoy the breeze and the blue sky when tasting some of the town’s cherished wines. This vineyard hosts a number of events aside from wine tasting and sampling food. Weddings are portrayed perfectly in this blossoming setting as the reception is just as possible to take place. This four star winery deserves all eyes as it produces an incredible selection of delicious wines and uses its fresh produce to create impeccable dining dishes.

The options for wine tasting in Mudgee, Australia are endless and more so priceless. Tour guides are set up for each winery. Also, to visit a number of Mudgee’s Vineyards there are companies, Mudgee District Wine Tours and others, with programs to help accomplish this goal. Although there are an enormous amount of delicate wines throughout the world, Mudgee is considered a top desire with its mountainous flavors, its creativeness and its beautiful vineyards.

A great option for when you are visiting Mudgee is to stay at one of the local wineries. In fact there is something for everyone with Mudgee accommodation with beautiful bed and breakfasts, great hotels and all other types of accommodation.

Hawaii Travel Deals - Traveling Cheaply to the Hawaiian Islands

Written by LisaJenkins on Tuesday, October 14th, 2008 in Travel.

Planning a family vacation this year? How about visiting the Hawaiian Islands? The cost can be rather expensive, but there are deals available out there so you can have some fun for less. Exhaust all your options to find the best deal.

Several sites on the Internet are dedicated to offering travel deals to customers. Before you go to the airline websites, check out Orbitz, Travelocity, Priceline, and Expedia. These sites offer deals on airfare, hotel accommodations, and rental cars. When you decide on the dates for travel, plug them into the search parameters on each website to see what they have to make the trip less of a financial drain.

At Priceline.com, folks looking for good prices on their travel can bid on fares. Let them know what you are looking for and how much you are willing to pay. Continue to check back to the site for deals or have them email you when something comes up in your price range.

In addition to Priceline.com, shoppers can look for airfare and hotel deals at travel auctions. Travel actions allow customers to save money by outbidding other shoppers. You can check the listings for airfare and hotel packages, deals on rental cars, timeshares, B &B’s, and other trip particulars. You can come across deals from the simple to the very unique.

Each site has their rules about membership and bidding, so read the fine print. Some, like Luxury Link are free to join, but you must be a member in order to bid on travel deals. People that want a premium luxury accommodations and airfare for less can find it here.

There is more than one type of auction. In single auctions, the highest bidder is the one that wins the deal or whatever you are bidding for. Then there are Best Shot auctions. Here, more than one of the same item is up for bid. The winners are those that come in with the highest bid. Then each bidder that wins pays the lowest of the winning bids.

A Dutch auction is similar to the Best Shot auction. When more than one of the same item is up for bid, the two highest winners get the items but only pay the lowest price of the day for that item. This means that the winner who bid the lowest price sets the price for both winners.

Travel auctions are worth looking into but be careful. If the deal sounds or looks to good to be true on paper, it probably is. There are many unscrupulous people out there who want your money. Read the fine print so you don’t’ get taken for a ride by a cheat.

Hotels on the islands can be pretty expensive. If price is not the object but amenities, here are some suggestions for hotels to check out. On the island of Maui, there is the Grand Wailea hotel. This establishment is not for people without deep pockets. The prices start at $575 per night and can run as high as $3,200. For a modest hotel with great service, go to the Mana Kai hotel or the Napili Surf. The former runs around $133 per night, while the latter offers rooms for $94 a night.

Prices on Kauai are in the same range and higher for premium accommodations. The Princeville Resort will serve you with style for a mere $565 to $5,500. The Hyatt is a bit more reasonable with rooms starting at $430. For families, the Kaua’i Palms Hotel has rooms for $65 a night. Perfect for those who don’t want to break the bank with their hotel bill.

The Big Island has some great choices for those travelers. Choose from the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel with prices starting at $306 a night. There is a private beach as a perk of your stay. The Royal Kona Resort offers rooms near the shopping district for $85 a night. To save money, vacationers can always book a hotel room on one Hawaiian Island and island hop for day trips.

Thinking Of Travelling By Sea? Read Some Cruise Tips

Written by NickNikolis on Tuesday, October 14th, 2008 in Travel.

If you have never taken a cruise before, here are tips that will make your trip more enjoyable, less frantic and organized.

Lately, there are more requirements that cruise lines require like completing immigration information before the cruise. It is important that you have two ID forms. You must either have a travel passport or a birth certificate. You must also carry a photo ID like a driver’s license. Print these papers after you have made a final payment and take them with you when you check in.

We always try to fly in the day before the cruise departs. This is not mandatory, but it eliminates panic about flight delays or missing luggage concerns. If you do arrive the same day as departure, allow ample time to get from the airport to the dock. You must be checked in at least one and a half hours prior to the ship’s departure. You also need to allow sufficient time on your return flight. It is suggested to choose your departing flight by 1:00 in the afternoon. Attempt to arrive the day before the departure of the cruise line. This is not necessarily mandatory but it does eliminate panic about flight delays.

You will be assigned to one of two rooms on board. They are called a”Stateroom” or “Cabin”. There are two kinds of accommodations on board. The are called state room or cabin. They both have the same meaning. Choose wisely. If you or someone in your family is claustrophobic, do not choose an inside cabin, as they are small with no windows. Try a cabin with a porthole. Balcony cabins are also a good alternative as they are usually bigger. If you are with your family, most new ships have cabins that are family friendly. You cabin will include very nice amenities that will make it seem more like home. These include private baths, refrigerators, large closets, phone and TV.

Sea sickness should not be a concern for you. The newer ships now have stabilizers that keep the ship from rocking side to side. To be on the safe side, pack medicine like Dramamine in your bag. You can also purchase over the counter medicines in the Sundries store on board, after sail away. Luckily, sea sickness is not a huge concern for people who suffer from motion sickness anymore. Modern ships have what are called stabilizers. This eliminates the rocking motion which sends people staggering around green from sickness. If you should have sea sickness anyway, retreat to your cabin and lie down with a cold washrag over your head or neck.

No cruise is complete without fine dining. Dress up and go to a fine dining establishment where you can sit at the same table and be served by the same waiters every night. You can even enjoy 24 hour room service. be mindful of tipping guidelines which vary

When you are packing, bring comfortable shoes. This is very important because you will do lots of walking. Do not forget to take medications, plenty of clothes, a swimsuit and your travel documents in a small bag that you can take with you. This eliminates the anxiety of waiting for your belongings to show up in your cabin.

Above all, have fun taking advantage of the many activities that they offer there. Get a massage at a massage parlor, go work out at a fitness center, and go relax by the pool. You can even watch movies, go rock climbing, go skating and more! Also, do not miss out on the shore excursions,

If you are bringing your children, take advantage of the activities for kids. Every cruise line has a children’s program. These are usually grouped by age. Take advantage of the baby-sitting service available. You will have to pay, but it is worth it if you and your spouse/partner would like to steal away and enjoy the nightlife on board.

Whether you are going for an anniversary, a get-away, or a family vacation, a cruise line is a great destination.

A Lake Tahoe Escapade On A Shoestring Budget

Written by AltheaMarie on Tuesday, October 14th, 2008 in Travel.

When tourists think of California, they immediately think of San Francisco, Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, or San Diego. They think of sunshine, movies, celebrities, and cars. What most visitors coming from outside of California don’t know is that just three hours from San Francisco is a breathtaking, freshwater lake set against a stunning, heart-stopping, panoramic views of mountains and crystal-clear water. This is Lake Tahoe. Located right smack on the border of California and Nevada, it may only be the second deepest lake in the US, but it is second to none in terms of reputation and allure.

Lake Tahoe tourism

Although Lake Tahoe is bustling with tourist activities, it has not deterred retirees, families, honeymooners, and outdoor enthusiasts from traveling to Lake Tahoe and calling Lake Tahoe their destination of choice. During winter, Lake Tahoe transforms into a world-class ski destination. Skiers are treated to some of the most amazing snow at places like Squaw Valley USA, Alpine Meadows, and Heavenly. Whatever your skill level may be, skiing at Lake Tahoe will be an experience of a lifetime.

During spring to early fall, water sports and nature activities dominate Lake Tahoe. Going there is usually incomplete without the popular boat ride across the lake. Keep your eyes peeled to the high heavens– you just might spot fireworks show over the lake.

A Lake Tahoe tour package usually involves several options, which tourists can customize: from hiking and mountain biking, gambling, to just dining in the most luxurious restaurants.

Be a wise tourist

Lake Tahoe will not run out of sceneries to explore. There are rocky coves, white sandy beaches, plunging cliffs, and so many other things your tour guide may not warn you about.

Yet more than appreciating these tidbits of information, an affordable package should be your primary priority. Let’s face it. Fewer and fewer people just have the luxury of spending a lot on amenities these days. And with the high concentration of tourists and the unprecedented pace of development, the price of a Lake Tahoe vacation may shock you.

If you’re on a tight budget, you many want to check out budget inns near the Lake. Rooms range from $55 to $267 per night per room, which is a lot of savings compared to staying at 4- to 5- star hotels. There are also available activities in Lake Tahoe that are easy in the pocket like like carriage ride ($19.99), hay wagon rides ($49.99), Emerald Bay helicopter tour ($48.99), and Emerald Bay cruise ($41.00).

Whether you want to splurge on accommodation or are happy staying at budget inns, what’s more important at the end of the day is you get your money’s worth. Your Lake Tahoe adventure should be an unforgettable adventure and worth looking back on.

The Global Resorts Networkenables you to visit Lake Tahoe in amost luxurious way possible at the most reasonable costs. Ordinarily, a travel package to Lake Tahoe will cost you up to several thousand dollars. If you plan to stay at an all-inclusive, 4- or 5-star hotel, expect to pay even more, much more. But, if you are a member of the Global Resorts Network, the same package at one of these 4- or 5-star hotels will only cost you around $298 to $699! You will save thousands of dollars instantly.
