Written by GarethBray on Wednesday, October 15th, 2008 in Recreation.

People are desperately looking for investment opportunities as it is foreseen nowadays to be a lucrative means to earn some decent extra income. Like anyone else, we are very keen yet cautious in determining which investment opportunity to consider. It is hard-earned money hence we don’t want it to go to vain.

But don’t waste your time anymore. Collecting numismatic rare coins is now valued as one of the best means to investment. It is forecasted that the worth of these numismatic rare coins will exponentially double in the next coming years.

In fact, it presents a greater chance to be richer in a shorter length of time. This is specifically applicable to people who are collecting numismatic rare coins. These valuable coins are more likely to double or triple its market price in the next few years. They already discovered the feasible way to do it. The great deal about starting off this investment is its availability. At the moment, there are few people who are into this kind of collection. Also, the prices, which have been almost the same for the past five years, for these rare collections of coins are still reasonable.

As this kind of investment is not yet saturated, there is very high availability of these rare collections. There is easy access and availability for whoever wishes to buy it.

But what exact is numismatic rare coins? These are actually old coins where are generally made of gold or silver. It is not becoming prominent among the experienced investors as they consider it as a balancing stock portfolio. It implies that investing to such rare collections; the investors are actually reducing the risk in the investment market while expecting substantial return of investment in the next few years.

In fact many financial analysts recommend depositing their discretionary funds to these rare coins and other related precious metals. The advisable percentage of the discretionary funds is at least 10 to 20 percent. Apart from that, the current market price for some rare coins which are made of silver and gold in 1970’s at a minimal production cost of 1,000 only has now escalated to 58,000. This illustration which was depicted by the Coin Universe in the recent market analysis is a persuading fact on how numismatic rare coins are really considered as valuable assets to financial investors.

It is a wide option to prefer an investment in these rare collections of coins as its value escalates whereas the value of the investments made to treasury bills, stock markets and bonds are easy to lose or depreciate. These type of investments are unstable which has probability of losing it in just seconds and days.

Most of the rare coins are made of gold, silver and platinum; hence, you can assure that indeed its market value is escalating. You have also a slim chance of fluctuating value as this coin investment is not directly affected with external factors such as inflation. It is indeed more stable than stock markets and treasury bills.

Extreme Salmon Fishing In Alaska

Written by AndrewKasch on Wednesday, October 15th, 2008 in Recreation.

Of all of the big game fresh water fishing that takes place, salmon fishing is probably one of the most popular. These fish can get quite large and whenever they are running, they can put up a fight that is unbelievable unless you experience it yourself. Although in many parts of the world, salmon fishing is somewhat limited because of declining stock, salmon fishing in Alaska is still widely available and the fish run regularly, year after year. Some of the most popular places to fish for salmon in Alaska include Kenai River, Copper River, and Bristol Bay although the salmon can run in almost any River whenever they are spawning and can even populate new water areas that are formed by retreating glaciers.

There are plenty of people that travel into the state specifically to go salmon fishing and they generally are never let down. As a matter of fact, recent years have seen record numbers of salmon spawning and it doesn’t show any sign of stopping soon. If you plan on going fishing for salmon in Alaska, however, you’d be better off to get a guide than to try to go on your own. Most people are unfamiliar with Alaska unless they are from the area and in many are surprised with how much of a wilderness it actually is. Not only is it important to hire a guide service in order to get you to the right areas at the right time to catch salmon, you also need a guide to help you to stay safe along the journey. After all, being in a wilderness area, there are some dangers that you need to be concerned about. Having somebody along that is knowledgeable about the area can go a long way in helping you to be safe.

The salmon tend to run from early spring throughout the late fall and it is possible for you to get into some great salmon fishing at any time during the spawning season. Most of the salmon that run will die within a few days after they spawn but there are some that will last for more than one year and even spawn more than once. Some of the different species that you might encounter whenever you are on your Alaska fishing trip might include the Alaska king salmon, the silver salmon, red salmon, pink salmon and chum salmon. Depending on the guide service that you choose, you will go after a different species of this fish and may cover one or more rivers, depending on the service that you are using.

Of all of the different type of freshwater fishing that is available in Alaska, salmon fishing is going to provide you with some of the best action. For example, the king salmon commonly reaches weights of anywhere from 30 to 50 pounds and you are going to feel every ounce of it on the end of your line. So if you’re looking for some great fishing action, come to Alaska and try your hand at catching some salmon.

Motorcycle Safety Tips

Written by MerlinGallen on Wednesday, October 15th, 2008 in Recreation.

Whether you have been riding a motorcycle for ages or you are simply in a place where you are looking to start, you will find that you always need to be mindful about your own safety and that of the people around you. Although they have a reputation for danger, motorcycles are quite safe to ride as long as you keep a few things in mind. When you want to make sure that you are going to be riding safely, here are a few tips that you need to keep in mind.

1. Wear a helmet

Whether they are required in your area or not, a well-fitted helmet is an important part of any rider’s gear. You’ll find that a helmet can prevent a huge number of injuries both small and large and in the event of an accident, they will reduce the extent of damage to the head and brain a great deal. Look for helmets that have a DOT label, meaning that it is a helmet that has met federal regulations. Anyone who gets on your motorcycle should have a helmet as well. Remember that once a motorcycle helmet has suffered an impact that it should be replaced.

2. Appropriate clothing

When you are riding your motorcycle, remember that every inch of skin should be covered. Even thin clothing can provide you with some protection in the case of a wipeout, and ideally, you will be wearing clothing that is specifically meant to do just that. Don’t wear shorts on your motorcycle; there is no protection for your legs at all should you fall, and you will also find that it is easy to burn yourself when your bike is running hot. Make sure that the trousers that you wear are relatively fitted and that they won’t tangle with your kick starter or your foot peg. Some people choose to wear chaps over their jeans for added protection and many motorcyclists choose to wear leather jackets no matter what the weather. Similarly, invest in a pair of good leather boots that will cover your ankle and protect you from both abrasion and crushing impact; find boots that zip up or buckle, rather than ones that tie, because laces will get in the way.

3. Good visibility

When you are looking for the things that will keep your motorcycle riding safe, you will find that you should look around for something bright to wear on your torso, especially if you want to ride at night. Some motorcyclists will wear reflective yellow or orange vests over their jackets to make sure that motorists will see them.

4. Gloves

When you want to make sure that your grip on your handles stay firm, no matter how cold or hot it gets, you’ll find that you need a good pair of leather gloves. Leather gloves are quite common, though you can find gloves made out of other materials that have a great leather grip. When you want to make sure that your sleeves don’t billow out and flap behind you, you’ll find that you can find gloves in the gauntlet style, with cuffs that go over the edges of your sleeve and keep the wind out.

5. Shield your eyes

There are plenty of motorcycles that don’t have windshields and if that describes yours, look for ways to protect your eyes. You may be dealing with dirt, rocks, insects and other things that might come flying through the air at you, and even the wind can cause you to tear up and fog up your vision. Look for goggles that have high quality plastic lenses or a helmet that has a good face shield. You will be looking at material that should be made out of shatter proof material, as well as being ventilated in order to keep your breath or your body heat from fogging it up. Remember that you should only ever use tinted shields during the day; during the night, clear shields will give you the visibility that you need.

6. Everything in its proper place

If you like to go for longer trips on your motorcycle, you’ll find that you need a place to store everything. Don’t simply carry something strapped to your body and don’t tie it to your bike. Unless you do a very good job of tying everything down, you will find that you might be facing the loss of your things as they fly over the highway, and in a worst case scenario, things tangled around you and the bike can cause an accident. Make sure that you invest in some large sturdy motorcycle saddlebags that will carry all of your things and keep them safe.

Written by RyanWells on Tuesday, October 14th, 2008 in Recreation.

Host a Hobby Party

Written by LilyMorgan on Tuesday, October 14th, 2008 in Recreation.

A great way to celebrate your favourite hobby is by hosting a party in honor of it. It might sound silly at first but this is something people already do quite often. Even a weekly poker game is similar to a hobby party. Get together with those you know that share the same hobby interests as you. If you have a hobby group, invite them over for a weekend get together or use it as away to start your own hobby group. Having a hobby party is fun on a variety of different levels.

Many people take great pleasure and joy in being the host or hostess of an elaborately planned event. If this is you, consider planning out an event that revolves around your hobby. It doesn’t matter what it is, use it as the theme of the party. If its art then have your guests bring their latest piece to show or if its books, everyone can bring their favourite book and discuss why it is so special to them. Lay out some finger food snacks like mini sandwiches and cookies. Brew some coffee and sit back to enjoy a good time with friends.

If you have a hobby group then it only makes sense to invite them to your hobby party. If you do not have a hobby group then this is a fantastic way to start one. Post an ad in your local paper or around your neighbourhood to let people know about your function. Chances are good that there will be someone out there that you have yet to meet who shares your hobby love. It’s also a great way to introduce yourself to neighbours you have not met yet and get to know some new people.

A hobby party can be a great theme for a children’s birthday party. It gives all of the kids something to focus on other than eating cake and making a mess. Get them to participate in some crafts, artwork or building model cars. Whatever hobby you choose, it can be a winner with the right preparation. You can even have a few different hobby stations set up for them to take part in. This allows each child to select which hobby they prefer and enjoy the most.

A barbecue can be the perfect setting for a hobby party. Choose a nice day and cook up some burgers on the grill while everyone mingles and chats about their favourite hobby. A hobby party doesn’t even have to be focused on just one type of hobby. It can be organized so that everyone is encouraged to bring along something that showcases their hobby and related skill, no matter what it is.

If having a party at home just doesn’t work for you or you live somewhere impossible like a small apartment, try renting a hall or local building for the day and have everyone meet there. It prevents your home from becoming cluttered and messy while being open to the public as well. Hosting a hobby party is a fun way to share what you love.

There are as many hobbies as there are people who enjoy them. Learn more about the popular hobby of building and collecting dollhouses and miniatures. Visit our large selection of wooden doll house kits today at http://www.TheMagicalDollhouse.com.

Make Your Own – Hobby Ideas

Written by LilyMorgan on Tuesday, October 14th, 2008 in Recreation.

When it comes to hobbies and saving money, we all want things that make it easier on our budgets yet remain enjoyable. Many people enjoy making their own items. This is a hobby that can take on many forms. There really is no shortage to the things that can be made by hand within the comfort and privacy of your own home. It can be easy to get sidetracked and think that means boring things that you have little to no interest in. But there are more fun hobby ideas you can get creative with than you might suspect.

Doll collecting is a popular past time that really hasn’t diminished at all in popularity over the years. Though it is something that we don’t commonly hear about from day to day, there are many people still actively participating. Designing and making your own dolls really is not that difficult with the right materials. Step by step instructions can be obtained at a craft store or even online. Soft or hard body dolls can be put together as well as the outfits that you plan to dress them in. This is a great way to have a doll that is completely original and unique to your collection.

Most of us would not consider making our own clothes to be a fun filled hobby. However, quite the opposite is true. By making your own clothes you can tailor them to be the perfect fit for your body. Clothes found in the store are not always this way. If there is a certain style you like you can recreate it with your own personal flair or try your hand at designing your very own style. It’s a perfect way to guarantee that nobody else will be wearing the same outfit as you.

Jewellery and accessories can easily be made at home, some of them in just a few minutes. From choker necklaces to hair clips and headbands, there is nothing you can’t design and decorate at home. This type of hobby tends to be great for rainy days or lazy days when you feel like staying in. Creating original jewellery is a fantastic way to get started in your own business as well.

Many people have turned hobbies that can be done at home in to full fledged businesses. We all hear the stories about making money through eBay sales and they are true. Items of all kinds from jewellery to bookmarks can be made for low cost and sold online for a decent profit. If you have the spare time and the willingness to see what happens, give it a try. You might just be surprised at how fast your creations are snapped up.

Anything that can be made at home can be a viable and rewarding hobby and in some cases a successful business. Even the ladies always selling pies at the flea market are making use of this type of hobby. Making your own creations is a special way to be creative and original.

Things Cockfighting and a CCTV Security Camera Share in Common

Written by NahshonRoberts on Monday, October 13th, 2008 in Recreation.

Cockfighting is a blood sport to the death involving two specially-bred roosters with razor-sharp spurs attached to their legs. If you are new to the sport, you would know that it is an ancient Eastern sport that has gained a strong, if ultra-secret, following in Western nations.

A CCTV security camera, on the other hand, is part of a surveillance and security that seeks to deter crime and catch criminals in the act. You should not be new to these surveillance cameras as you see them virtually everywhere – train stations, offices, homes, stores, and theme parks and on roads.

You might be wondering about the things in common between a blood sport and a CCTV security camera by now. Well, read on.

Both Can Get You Jailed

Cockfighting is illegal in the United States and in most of Europe, though certain areas in France are exempted from the ban by virtue of the sport having a long-standing tradition recognized by the state. Still, practitioners of combats de coq (as they are called in France) face up to two years in jail when caught engaging in them outside of the authorized villages. Even the mere possession of cockfighting paraphernalia outside the villages can get you jailed, though attending the cockfights are not prohibited for the non-French.

As such, you can face both imprisonment and fines for violations of the laws against cockfighting that includes anything and everything having to do with fighting cocks from possession to placing wagers. In fact, a CCTV camera caught two men in Bristol engaging in a cockfight with the consequence that jail time can be served.

That being said, whatever shenanigans you perform in front of a CCTV security camera can get you jailed, too. Hocking stolen jewelry at a pawnshop? Shoplifting from the department store? Beating the red light? Speeding on highways? Cheating at the casino? Even having an affair? All these crimes caught on a CCTV security camera can cost you big-time!

Both Expose You to Dangers

Cockfighting is not just deadly to the roosters. You are also exposed to the dangers present in cockpits (term for where cockfights are held) such as:

- Gambling especially as this is the norm in cockfights.

- Firearms and other weapons used to protect large amounts of money present for the gambling side

- Illegal drugs particularly as law enforcement officials have discovered a strong connection between cockfighting and narcotics

And if you bring your children to cockfights, you are similarly exposing them to dangers that not even violent shows and games can equal. This is, after all, real blood and real life.

On the other hand, a CCTV security camera exposes you to the dangers of involuntary surveillance. Imagine how you would feel if your image is caught on tape without your consent and said video footage was used for nefarious purposes.

Then again, a CCTV security camera does alert you to approaching danger especially when it has pan-and-tilt, zoom-and-focus features. If you think about it, this is not such a bad trade-off. You can think of it as a little invasion of your privacy for the sake of the bigger picture of public safety.

The next time you are tempted to engage in cockfights, be very sure you are in an area authorized to hold them. Check out Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, Guam, the Nord-Pas de Calais region in France, and Asian countries like the Philippines and India.

What Most Betting Systems Cannot Do

Written by CliffThurston on Monday, October 13th, 2008 in Recreation.

In my many years of being involved with and following horse racing, I have seen numerous betting systems come and go. I have noticed that every so often, something touted as the next super system will appear, however most of these betting systems have a fatal flaw, a flaw that I will reveal in this article.

I am sure that we have all seen them before in newspapers and in magazines. I still to this day receive them through the post every so often; the quintessential ‘junk mail’ if you will. It has to be said that the advent of the internet has enabled them to flourish like never before, in vast numbers.

I am of course talking about the betting systems phenomena. They cover every sport imaginable, however I am afraid that horse racing appears to be the prime target for these systems and today you will discover why they do not work.

Key Information That You Need To Know

The principal issue that I have with the majority of the betting systems that are so aggressively marketed nowadays, is that they seem to rely purely on the law of averages, previous form or some new algorithm that has been developed (and sometimes all three!), to predict the outcome of a sporting contest.

In the case of horse racing, a betting system of this nature does not take into account such crucial racing factors as the jockey, the horse, the race course, the going on the day or indeed the rest of the field; all key aspects in determining which horse has the greater probability of winning a given race.

In many respects, the jockey can often be considered just as important as the horse, as an inferior horse ridden by a superior jockey will very often outperform a superior horse ridden by an inferior jockey. Of course, anyone like me who is involved with the sport will know that there are a raft of quality jockeys on the circuit, so this makes the exercise far from easy.

Most Systems Fail To identify Key factors

Generally speaking, horses are sometimes more comfortable running around a course which goes in an anti-clockwise direction (known as a left-handed course), rather than a right-handed course which goes in a clockwise direction, so this key nugget of information has to be included into the equation.

The going of the ground on the day of the race can also have a profound impact on the result of a race. Many of these new sophisticated betting systems will not take into account the early morning downfall of 30 millimeters of rain at Cheltenham. An occurrence such as this could have a critical affect on the horse that a punter may back, and it may be the difference between having a bet and looking elsewhere.

I also know for a fact that none of the software based betting systems on the market take value into account, often identifying favourites as the horses to back.

This is in my opinion a serious mistake, as although favourites tend to win on average one in three races, simply betting on favourites in each and every race, would you see you penniless in no time at all.

There Is No Substitute For Knowledge

The one thing that software, statistics and trends cannot replace is having all the relevant information and knowledge to hand. Of course, even then the experts can get it wrong, but relying on concrete information and taking consideration of some of the intangible aspects of racing (such as the going and the course) stands a punter in far better stead, than acting upon a software system’s recommendations.

Recreational Things You Can Do on a Kids Sofa

Written by RonyPollock on Monday, October 13th, 2008 in Recreation.

Often, you live a harried and hurried life in the pursuit of providing for your children’s needs and wants. For relaxation, you turn to adult recreational outdoor activities like golf that leaves little time for spending time with your children. You tend to forget that the best things in life are free and often fleeting, including your children’s happiness and childhood.

But you can reverse this woeful trend now. In fact, you can start with going down to your children’s level, or more appropriately, to the level of their kids’ sofa where you can do many activities without leaving the house and spending money. Here is how.

Sing Songs

You can sing your children’s songs with them. You can let them stand atop their kid-sized sofa while you plop down on the floor, pretend that you are the band and they are the divas, and sing your heart away! Sure, you will sing silly nursery songs but your children’s happy laughter and sweet voices definitely beat the rowdiness of karaoke bars with their horrendously off-key patrons.

Create a Book Club

You can drag your children’s bookcase near their kids’ sofa and start a home book club. Leave your boring annual reports and business journals behind. You should let your children lead you to their imaginary world of enchanted kingdoms peopled with talking animals and fantastical creatures. You can let them act out their stories while you sit on their children’s sofa. Just be careful though that you don’t sit too hard!

Pretend Play

With a little imagination, a pair of scissors and spare fabric, you can build a mini-throne for your children out of their kids’ sofa. Just pull a length of fabric through a towel hoop, hang it on the wall and arrange to make a backdrop for the throne. You can then embellish the mini-throne with cushions while your children make cardboard crowns, turn sticks into scepters and blankets into capes. Voila! You have your prince and princess!

Or you can make a mini-tent with their kids’ sofa in the center. You can make up situations where the mini-tent is your hiding place, your headquarters and your castle. Your imagination is the only limit!

Make a Mini-Theater

Why spend precious dollars to watch the movies in theaters when you can make your own mini-theater at home? You can designate adult sections with adult-sized sofas and kid sections with kid-sized sofas. Better yet, you can all cuddle up in your side of the home theater or sit at the feet of their kids’ sofa for a more intimate atmosphere. Throw in buckets of popcorn and pitchers of lemonade and you have a movie experience the whole family can enjoy! (Say goodbye to disturbing other moviegoers and keeping your silence while the movie plays)

If you do run out of ideas to do using your kids’ sofa, then you can always talk about anything and everything with your kids. Let them sit on their sofa while you listen to their wisdom and in the process learn while you teach. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the best way recreation there is!

Get closer to your children through imaginative uses of children

Fall is Here: Go Outside and Play!

Written by DaveRoth on Monday, October 13th, 2008 in Recreation.

It’s fall! The season is changing and it’s getting a lot cooler outside. With that in mind, you should go out and play. You should enjoy it. Whether you do things with your friends, your family members, or both, there is a lot of time to devote to having fun. In many areas of the country it’s simply too hot to be outside during the height of summer. You have to stay inside where the air conditioning is and try to plan your outdoor activities really early in the morning or very late at night. By doing so you can avoid some of the worst of the heat. Things like barbecues, birthday parties, and other get-togethers, however, can’t really take place that way. They usually happen in the afternoon or early evening, and that means that it’s going to be warm. It keeps people from playing games like Frisbee, horseshoes, badminton, and Cornhole. As the weather cools, though, you can be outside and really enjoy it, and that means fun times with family and friends and the Cornhole game. For those who play it all the time, they can’t wait to get their game boards out. For those who are new to it, it’s a fun and easy game to play, and anyone can do it.

The Cornhole game – which is sometimes also called the bean bag game or the bean bag toss – is a lot of fun. The board is made of wood or plastic, and it’s two feet by four feet. Some people also use the two foot by three foot, smaller board because it’s easier to transport and move around. Whichever board you choose to use, you just put it on the ground outside and get ready. There are small, cloth bags that are stuffed with lightweight plastic pellets. They used to be stuffed with dried corn or dried beans when the game was created, but plastic is now used because it doesn’t biodegrade or become damaged if it gets wet. These bags are tossed at the board from a specific distance away. Bags that go through the hole in the board are worth points, and bags that land on the board and stay there are worth points, but not as many. If a bag misses the board or hits it but does not stay on, no points are given. The great thing about this game is that it’s not physically taxing and the rules are not complicated, so there’s no reason why almost anyone can’t enjoy it.

From the very young the the very old – and even the disabled – there are a lot of people who play the Cornhole game and really love it. Some people love it so much that they organize tournaments for it. A lot of people get together at these tournaments and they play for cash or for some very simple prizes. The idea is not so much about winning a lot of money but about having fun with other people who share the love of the Cornhole game.

Dave Roth runs a site that sells cornhole games. In addition to free building dimensions and rules, the site also carries discount cornhole bags boards.
